Our Location
Moshi City, Tanzania
Famous for the world renowned Kilimanjaro coffee grown on the foothills of Kilimanjaro mountain, the highest mountain in Africa. This is the gateway to the Serengeti Plains and home to the cattle farming Masai tribes. In 2010, Moshi had the highest female literacy rate in all of Tanzania making it an ideal base and a stunning backdrop, for the Salome Foundation’s educational programs.

Our Work
Additionally, we aim to identify and support elders and orphans living in vulnerable situations. It is our hope to stop the cycle of poverty by providing the skills and education needed to build self-reliance and strong community networks.
Our
Programs
Economic Independence
The Salome Foundation helps mothers, widows and teenage mothers prepare business plans and teaches them how to budget and save money. We have developed the “Village Bank” system to provide loans and community capital to start new businesses or assist those in need. Many of our participants have never had a bank account.
Gender Equality Awareness
Our programs conduct awareness training to women and youth on gender equality and climate change. We educate women and young mothers on leadership and women’s rights.
Communities in Tanzania still hold strong taboos, customs, and traditions. High rates of gender-based violence in the country remain a serious concern.
Women’s Health & Reproductive Rights
One of the objectives of Salome Foundation is to support widows, orphans and underprivileged girls by giving them the basic needs like mattresses, food, period products, and clothes.
A lot of participants have very little knowledge of their reproductive health or rights. We try to provide a medical check-up as part of our programs. For some, it is their first time visiting a doctor.
Our
Story
I am Salome J Muna. I am a trained entrepreneur and tour guide.
I was raised by a single mother who did not have enough income to take care of me or herself. I was fortunate to get sponsorship from the Give a Heart to Africa organisation. I took a one-year course in business which contributed a lot in improving my standard of living. I felt empowered and achieved some financial independence which is not easy for a woman in Tanzania.
The Salome Foundation was started in 2019 and formally registered in 2023 as an NGO.
The Salome foundation is a platform for supporting women and girls who lead vulnerable lives, especially widowed mothers. It is a way for myself and other good-hearted people to give back to the community. The Salome Foundation focuses on providing support and education to underprivileged groups so they might unleash their potential and became self-reliant.
