Kidia Village

A short drive up a dirt road through Old Moshi town, Kidia village is surrounded by lush forest and banana plants. You’ll pass by the Mangi Meli monument and Kidia Primary school along the way. Access to the small houses are via stepped, mountain paths, so please wear appropriate shoes.

Hit the Market

A driver will pick you up from your accommodation in Moshi city. Meet Salome at the local market and pick up some fresh produce to take back to the village.

Get to Work

Women do the bulk of the work in Chagga society so roll up your sleeves ladies. Help feed the chickens, rabbits, goats and cows,  trim and harvest bananas, and dig up some yams.

Relax & Eat Lunch

Before you can eat, you’ll need to prepare the food and wait patiently for it to cook. Everything is done outside, next to a fire, surrounded by the sounds of the village.

Chaga People’s History

The Chaga people were successful traders and farmers and are the third largest ethnic group in Tanzania. Kilimanjaro mountain served as an ideal trading hub with fertile farming land and so the Chaga people accrued wealth and thrived.
